GTA 6 ratings list sex scenes, drugs, decapitation but no gambling

Deleted PEGI text and store listings say GTA 6 has sex scenes, cocaine use and detailed decapitation, while no gambling descriptor appears in its ratings.

Reported. Established outlets report this. Rockstar hasn't said so.

Grand Theft Auto 6's age ratings reveal more of the game's adult content than Rockstar has shown in any trailer. Ahead of the November 19 launch, store listings and a PEGI description that was online only briefly in early October describe on-screen sex scenes, cocaine the player can use at any moment, and violence that includes "detailed decapitation and dismemberment." One thing none of the ratings mention is gambling.

What the deleted PEGI listing said

The most detailed text came from PEGI, the European ratings body. It gave GTA 6 an 18 rating and posted a full content summary on its website, then removed it. Fans saved the text before it disappeared, Eurogamer reported on October 2. Neither PEGI nor Rockstar has said why the page came down.

Drugs. The listing calls drug use "frequent and prominent." Players can take drugs with other characters or straight from their inventory. The standout line: "cocaine can be carried around by the player and snorted directly from their hand at any time." That would be new for the series. Earlier protagonists mostly sold drugs rather than used them, and the bongs in GTA 5 and GTA Online stay in player-owned apartments.

Violence. PEGI says players can hurt any character in the world with a "high degree of realism," and that some weapons can cut off heads and limbs. PC Gamer points out that this goes well beyond earlier GTAs, where damage mostly meant pools of blood, wound decals and ragdoll physics. Dexerto adds that, according to the same text, animals can be hurt but don't show the same injury detail as humans.

Sex. PEGI lists nudity, "scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes." It also describes paid private dances in nightclubs where the player can touch the dancers.

Sex scenes on the PlayStation Store

Before the PEGI text came out, IGN noticed that the PlayStation Store's Australian and New Zealand pages list "sex scenes" among GTA 6's content warnings, according to Eurogamer. The UK page lists "sexual content" and shows PEGI's sex symbol. Eurogamer notes that the same symbol appears on Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, two games known for explicit scenes.

Eurogamer included two caveats. At the time, these descriptions couldn't be found on the ratings boards' own sites, possibly because of embargoes. And "sex scenes" doesn't have to mean fully explicit content. If the listings are accurate, though, GTA 6 would be the first mainline GTA to show sex on purpose. San Andreas's Hot Coffee minigame was cut before release and only came back through a mod, and the brief scene in The Ballad of Gay Tony kept the characters mostly clothed.

This fits the story Rockstar is telling. Jason and Lucia's relationship is the core of the game (here's what we know), and Eurogamer points to a moment in an official trailer that looks like the start of an intimate scene. PC Gamer notes that the relationship apparently doesn't have to be romantic, but the game supports playing the two as a long-term couple.

The ESRB rating and the missing gambling label

In North America, the ESRB rated GTA 6 Mature 17+. Dexerto lists the descriptors: blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and drug and alcohol use.

Fan site GTAVice spotted what's missing: there's no gambling descriptor. Dexerto notes that PEGI gave one to Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online and the PS5 version of GTA 5. That suggests the base game may not have casino games like blackjack. A missing label doesn't prove every kind of betting is gone, though, and it tells us nothing about a future online mode.

What's still unconfirmed

Rockstar hasn't commented on any of these descriptions, and the most detailed text comes from a page that was deleted. Ratings boards write these summaries after reviewing the game, so they carry weight, but details like the cocaine mechanic stay unverified until players have the game. We also don't know yet whether drugs affect gameplay or how the sex scenes are presented.

We won't have to wait long. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. A PC date hasn't been announced.
