Miami-Dade approves $3.9M GTA 6 Vice City deal for airport and port
Miami-Dade County says Rockstar will pay $3.9 million for GTA 6 ads, including Vice City lighting at Miami's airport and port, after weeks of local pushback.
Rumour. An unverified leak or claim. Treat it with caution until Rockstar speaks.

Miami-Dade County has finalised a $3.9 million agreement with Rockstar Games to advertise GTA 6 across county property. On October 28, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced in a county press release that the money covers both the advertising already up and a new round of Vice City branding at Miami International Airport (MIA), PortMiami and the transit network, according to Rockstar Intel. The announcement came from the county. Neither source points to a separate statement from Rockstar.
What the $3.9 million buys
Based on the county's announcement as reported by Rockstar Intel and GTA BOOM, the package includes:
- Vice City themed lighting at MIA and PortMiami
- Promotional displays on the pedestrian walkways between the airport's parking garages and its terminals
- Decorative wraps on selected traffic signal cabinets across the county. GTA BOOM says these will carry the game's signature gradient.
- Separate ad buys through the media companies that sell space at the airport and on county transit. GTA BOOM says this covers Metromover, Metrobus and Metrorail.
The total also includes the "Welcome to Vice City" sign already on the roof of the Kaseya Center. GTA BOOM puts that sign at $975,000 and says its money goes to Dan Paul Plaza, the park behind the arena. Rockstar pays to install, maintain and remove every piece of signage, and GTA BOOM notes the county still has to sign off on the final designs. The county has also published concept images of how the airport and port could look.
Levine Cava presented the deal as a revenue win. "These agreements allow us to turn that excitement into additional revenue for our community," she said.
A trimmed-down version of the original pitch
This was not a smooth sign-off. Rockstar and the county had long wanted to dress the airport and transport hubs in Vice City colours, but the plan hit weeks of resistance. Rockstar Intel points to objections from the sheriff's side. GTA BOOM says the sheriff and several commissioners opposed it, and that the partnership was at one point reported to be in trouble.
According to GTA BOOM, the early pitch went much further: rebranding the airport itself as Vice City and wrapping PortMiami and the whole transit map. What passed is a smaller set of approved activations. Travellers will see themed lighting and signage, not an airport renamed after a fictional city.
The wider Miami campaign
The county deal sits alongside a string of other Vice City activations around Miami. GTA BOOM lists the Miami Heat's "A Night in Vice City" on November 18, beach gear and plane banners over South Beach, murals at Wynwood Walls, temporary banners downtown, in-game vehicles driving real streets and in-universe kiosk ads. The outlet also mentions fan speculation that Rockstar is filming a live-action trailer in the city. That is unconfirmed, and nothing in the county's announcement supports it.
What it means for players
For anyone flying into Miami around launch, the first view of the city may come with a Vice City glow. For everyone else, it shows how big a launch Rockstar is planning, which fits early demand signals like GTA 6's strong US digital pre-orders.
The remaining questions are timing and final looks. The county hasn't given a date for the airport and port lighting, and the designs still need approval. Rockstar Intel describes the installations as coming "in due course". GTA 6 launches on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so the window for Miami to finish the transformation is short.
