GTA 6 is a 210GB download on PS5, store tracker reports

GTA 6 will be a 210GB download on PS5, according to PlayStation Game Size, an account that finds file sizes for upcoming releases by searching the PlayStation Store's backend. The account posted the figure on October 27 for the $79.99 standard edition. Insider Gaming then said it had confirmed the number through its own sources, Dexerto and Kotaku report. Rockstar Games has not confirmed the size.

The same post repeated dates Rockstar has already announced. Pre-loading opens November 12, one week before the game launches on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What is still missing

GamesRadar+ says PlayStation Game Size has a fairly reliable track record, but the number still leaves some questions open. According to GameSpot, no size has surfaced yet for the $100 Ultimate Edition or the Xbox Series X|S version. GamesRadar+ adds that console versions of the same game usually differ only slightly.

The download and the install are also two different numbers. Eurogamer notes that the game may take up less than 210GB once installed, and that nobody knows yet whether a day-one patch is included. Kotaku points out that the figure also leaves out future updates, any DLC and the eventual GTA Online.

Buying a physical copy won't save you the download either. Dexerto notes that Rockstar has said the boxed edition contains a download code rather than a disc.

How it stacks up

Against Rockstar's own catalogue, the jump is big. PC Gamer says GTA V Enhanced needs 105GB on Steam and takes up 105.3GB on PS5. Red Dead Redemption 2 recommends 150GB on Steam but lists a minimum of 89.20GB on the PlayStation Store. GamesRadar+ puts the base PS5 sizes of both games at roughly 100 to 110GB, so on PlayStation, GTA 6 would be about double either one.

Outlets disagree on where it ranks among other big games. GameSpot shared a comparison graphic by content creator NikTek that puts GTA 6 at the top, ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (175GB), Assassin's Creed Valhalla (160GB), Stalker 2 (160GB) and Forza Horizon 6 (156GB). Kotaku says it isn't the largest console game ever, because several Call of Duty releases and ARK: Survival Evolved with all its DLC go higher. Eurogamer points out that Call of Duty lets players uninstall the modes they don't play. A future GTA Online might be harder to split off, since it would probably share the same map and much of the single-player content.

What it means for your storage

Dexerto calculates that 210GB is nearly a third of the launch PS5's 667GB of usable space. Kotaku's writer says that on an Xbox Series S, the game would take up close to two-thirds of the usable storage. Either way, many players will need to delete a few games before pre-loading.

The number is also close to an earlier claim from leaker CyberLeek, who threatened to release a playable build he said was over 200GB. As Dexerto points out, that claim was about an alleged development build, not the retail game, and it has never been verified.

What comes next

The next checkpoint is November 12, when pre-loading opens and the actual size will show up on players' consoles. GamesRadar+ expects some kind of day-one update on November 19, and Eurogamer says the PlayStation Store trackers will probably report it if the size changes before then. PC players will have to wait longer. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC date, though GamesBeat has reported a Q1 2027 window.
