When does GTA 6 come out?

November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official description of the launch trailer, quoted by Insider Gaming, ends simply: "Grand Theft Auto VI arrives November 19."

Getting to this date took two delays. Rockstar first aimed for late 2025. In May 2025 it moved the game to May 26, 2026, NME reported, and a second delay later pushed it to November. Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has talked about how that second delay landed.

On launch time, GTA BOOM describes a midnight launch on November 19. None of the sources behind this update give a time for each zone (US, European, Latin American or Brazilian), so we're not listing any here. Our release date and launch times by country hub tracks those as they firm up.

When can you pre-load GTA 6, and how big is it?

Pre-load is listed for November 12, according to GTA BOOM. The same outlet reports a 210 GB download for the PS5 Standard edition. That figure comes from PlayStationSize, an X account that reads PlayStation Store backend data. It isn't official, but GTA BOOM says the account's numbers are almost always right, and that compression or a day-one patch are the likeliest reasons it would change. That would make the game roughly double the size of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Xbox sizes haven't been published. On PS5, the game has to sit on the internal SSD or a compatible M.2 NVMe expansion drive, so clear space early. Our pre-load and download size hub has the storage details, and our download time breakdown works out how long 210 GB takes at common connection speeds.

How much does GTA 6 cost?

The reporting behind this update doesn't include an official price for any market: no US dollar, euro, pound, Mexican peso or Brazilian real figures. So we aren't repeating numbers from memory. Edition contents, pre-order bonuses and per-country prices are kept current in our price, editions and pre-order bonus hub.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not yet, officially. PC Gamer notes there is still no release date, or even an announcement, for a PC version. Rockstar's history suggests one will come eventually. A recent rumour points to early 2027, though PC Gamer says it isn't convinced. The PC hub follows every development.

For console players chasing performance, Notebookcheck summarises Digital Foundry's look at the PS5 launch trailer footage. It suggests the game still renders at about 1440p, upscaled to 4K, at 30fps. Animation looked smoother than in earlier footage, but there were some concerns about the HDR output. Rockstar hasn't shown PS5 Pro footage or promised 60fps, as we covered here.

Who are the GTA 6 characters?

The two leads are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Rockstar revealed their surnames and backstories alongside Trailer 2, GamesRadar+ reported. You can switch between them.

Their relationship goes deeper than a story beat. According to a recent Edge feature, as summarised by PC Gamer, the pair have a closeness rating on a four-point scale. Walks on the beach, gym sessions together and drives around Leonida all raise it. Choices carry narrative consequences, but only within a fairly narrow range.

The official story setup: when "an easy score goes wrong," the two end up tangled in a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonida. The full supporting cast lives in our characters hub.

Where is GTA 6 set?

Leonida, a fictional state based on Florida. Its biggest city, Vice City, is modelled on Miami. Rockstar's Trailer 2 screenshot drop showed six key areas:

  • Vice City: beaches, nightlife and dense streets
  • Ambrosia: a rundown industrial town with a biker gang called the Final Chapter
  • Grassrivers: swamps, airboats and plenty of alligators
  • Leonida Keys: waterside bars, scuba diving and yachts
  • Mount Kalaga National Park: woods, dirt-bike tracks, canyon roads and kayaking streams
  • Port Gellhorn: cheap motels and rough edges

Wildlife plays a big part. Our animals guide lists every species confirmed so far.

What about GTA 6 Online?

None of the sources for this update cover multiplayer, so we have nothing new to add on a GTA 6 Online launch or its features. Everything that has been said lives in the Online hub.

How many GTA 6 trailers are there?

Three main trailers, plus a Netflix extended look:

TrailerReleasedMusic
Trailer 1December 2023Tom Petty, "Love Is A Long Road"
Trailer 2May 6, 2025The Pointer Sisters, "Hot Together"
Launch trailerOctober 15, 2026Justice, new track

Rockstar says the launch trailer was captured entirely in-game on PS5. It features music from Justice, the electronic duo who composed the game's score. Their single "Flower in a Hurricane", featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, is on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album. PC Gamer found the trailer more focused on character and story than earlier ones. Our trailers hub goes through each one.

How Miami is turning into Vice City

The marketing has spilled into the real city. GTA BOOM reports that Miami-Dade County has announced a $3.9 million deal with Rockstar. It covers themed lighting at Miami International Airport and PortMiami, ads on the Metromover, Metrobus and Metrorail, and the game's colour gradient on traffic signal cabinets. The total includes the $975,000 "Welcome to Vice City" sign on the Kaseya Center. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava framed the deal as a way to turn global excitement into revenue for the county. The approved package is a scaled-back version of Rockstar's original pitch, and the county still has to sign off on the designs.

On November 18, the night before launch, the Miami Heat hold a one-night Night in Vice City promotion, with the arena and the team rebranded in the game's look. Our coverage has the merch details.
